Day 2: Adventure Connection from San Jose to Arenal

Today we travel from San José to Arenal: you can choose

White water rafting Balsa River Class II/III

After getting picked up from your hotel, we’ll drive through the beautiful Costa Rican back roads to our private put-in at the Balsa River, equipped with bathrooms and change rooms. Your professional guide will start the day off by providing paddling and safety instructions and then suiting you up with safety gear to prepare for your adventure! Challenge yourself as you paddle down 10 kilometers of exciting rapids with names like “Congo Loco” and “Rock around the Croc”. As you descend down the river, you’ll have a chance to admire the lush greenery, vines, and different types of insects, birds and animals, like monkeys and sloths.

About half way down the river you’ll have a chance to see the river rapids from the shore, while enjoying fresh tropical fruit and relaxing with the rest of your group! When your rafting adventure is finished, enjoy a typical Costa Rican lunch at a lovely restaurant. After your day full of nature, adventure and delicious food, we’ll drive you to your new vacation destination in our comfortable air-conditioned vans.

Or you can choose:

Visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Coffee tour on the way to Arenal:

Visit the breathtaking La Paz waterfall for some amazing photo ops and  spot birds, butterflies, monkeys, and maybe even some sloths. We will then move on along the winding mountain roads. You’ll notice a change in altitude as the temperature gets cooler and the type of vegetation changes–there are a lot of coffee, flower, fern and strawberry plantations higher in the mountains.

We then arrive to a local coffee farm cooperative. Enjoy an interesting tour at a coffee plantation where you will learn about the history and importance of coffee in Costa Rican culture. You will also enjoy a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch before continuing on to the Arenal Volcano.

Please note: the Poas Volcano National Park is temporarily closed and we have changed the logistics of this Adventure Connection and have replaced the Poas Volcano visit with a visit to the Arenal Volcano National Park Peninsula. Once the Poas Volcano is reopened, we will no longer include the Arenal Volcano National Park Peninsula visit.
